Tambolaka, NTT (16/09) – The prestigious Tour de Entete cycling race has been underway across East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) since September 10, covering the islands of Timor, Sumba, and Flores. On Monday, the event reached Tambolaka, Sumba Barat Daya (SBD), where local leaders emphasized its importance beyond sports.
NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, in his remarks at Galatama, Tambolaka, highlighted the strategic impact of the Tour de Entete. He noted that the event promotes tourism, boosts visitor numbers, and showcases the region’s cultural wealth to the international community. “Tour de Entete not only increases local income through the sale of products, but also strengthens the confidence and involvement of our younger generation as they engage with visitors from around the world,” he said.
SBD Regent Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wula echoed this sentiment, stressing that the race is more than an international sporting competition. “It is also a platform to introduce the cultural and natural treasures of Sumba Barat Daya. With our stunning beaches and rich natural beauty, we must preserve them as we move toward becoming an international tourism destination,” she said to enthusiastic applause from attendees.
Participants also shared their admiration for the region. A cyclist from Algeria and another from Australia expressed awe at Sumba’s landscapes and culture. “Sumba is truly beautiful. I will definitely return. The experience here is unique and unforgettable, especially with the chance to witness traditional Sumbanese music and rituals,” one rider said.
The Tour de Entete continues to draw global attention, positioning East Nusa Tenggara as a rising star in international cycling and tourism.
